Spring Sprung

Spring has sprung.  Certainly in our basement it has sprung.  Srung a leak that is.    Never, ever have we had a wet basement in all the houses we have owned.  This house has always rated highest on our list of best built houses that we have lived in.  Often we have told visitors that it is by far the straightest, truest house we've ever owned.

So it was a great surprise this morning to wake up to a couple of inches of water in the back half of the basement.  Despite our ongoing efforts to tame the stream, it has remained at a couple of inches all day.  Fred has completely removed the snowbank outside the room that is leaking.  He has re-directed the eaves trough downspout.  We stacked all the furniture in a drier room and have spent the day mopping and vacuuming with the shop vac.  The water comes in still.

Having just finished the kitchen re-do, we thought the house renos were done for 2014.  But I expect there will be some replacement parts needed in the basement once the water abates.

Getting a dehumidifier will help it all dry up with some speed. here is to finding the source of the troubles.

And here I am thinking that April is far too late for the day-after-day 30 degree celsius temperatures I'm enduring while visiting my daughter and grand-daughter in Brisbane. I'd love some cooler weather - though I don't really want the snirt!
