Late Post

I like to write blog posts early in the day. For me, that is the part of the day when I still have some working, grey matter.

But today, I had to wait until I awoke from my coma. My hike-induced coma.

I hike much less frequently than a few years ago, but today's hike took place close to home and was advertised as being about two-and-a-half hours in length. Great. Perfect. Not too much driving, and I could be home by early afternoon to work on Diagonal. Today's knitting goal was to finish the right front - the last major piece - and get it blocked.

BUT. Those two-and-a-half hours turned into four-and-a-half hours. We walked and walked and walked. Whoever measured off that hike needs new equipment. And I'd like to meet the sadist that decided it would be fun to have the trail go up and down the escarpment about twenty times every couple of kilometres.

By the time I got home, I could barely walk. Stairs were impossible. How much do those home elevators cost? I have been in a hike-induced stupor ever since. The right front is finished. Though blocking will wait 'til tomorrow.

A-Hunting We Will Go

Here they are. My four hunters, with their hunting hats - the 'mystery' hats. I was told it's Partridge, not Quail they hunt. Either way, I think the birds are safe.

Charley - Dad - the first to try his on.

Then, the family shot.

Sarah seems to think it is quite funny. And she would be right.

Then of course, with kids, the " stretched mouth shot."
What a wonderful Thanksgiving! 21 for dinner on Sunday and a rare, non-summer, non-ski weekend with the above-Hearsters. The weather could not have been more wonderful. The kids barely resisted the temptation to jump off the pier for an October swim. There were horse and wagon rides at the Apple Festival, fishing in the Beaver River, Salmon spotting at the fish ladder, board games and lots of laughs. And, today, the stock market is rebounding. Lots to be thankful for.

The Mystery Hats

The mystery hats can now be revealed. The intended recipients are in the car for the long drive south from Hearst.

So here they are.

What the heck???? you say.

Well, this summer, while in Hearst and visiting my new knitting-friend, Ruby, I saw that she was knitting hunting clothes for the hunters in her family. Hats, Mitts, Socks. All in Briggs & Little Hunter Orange. What a great idea, thought this knitter.

Charley, the Hearst son, hunts Quail in the fall. Often he takes all three kids along for a Saturday in the great outdoors. Which I personally think is very good luck for the Quail as the kids are only interested in the bon fire, the hot dogs and the marshmallows. While Charley tends to the kids, the Quail go free.

But Ruby's knitting got me thinking. Wouldn't it be fun for them all to have Hunter Orange hunting hats? So here you have it.

Four identical hats, but with their initials under the brim so there are no fights as they get dressed for a day in the woods. But once on the head, with brim turned up, they all look alike.

Modelled shots after Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving all. May you all be blessed with much to be thankful for.
