Thursdays Are For knit Group

The knitting revealed  at knit group's  'show & tell' today  was amazing.  Starting with Ingrid. She was wearing a skirt cast on in September.

 

You might remember the day we had the visitor from  Amsterdam wearing her hand-knit skirt.   Ingrid had just cast on for a skirt of  her own that day. See how much was  done on September 13.  Today she was wearing the skirt.  It's not a race.   I know.  But dang, she  puts me to shame. 

Ten strips (And I worry about second sock syndrome) with garter stitch edges, crocheted together except for the last few inches at the bottom of the skirt.  There, a  diamond shape, knit in contrasting yarn, was sewn into those last few inches.  Still not creative enough, Ingrid added beads.  Beyond wonderful, Ingrid.

Mini items reigned still, this week.  Sharon had some mini socks.

The other reigning item was the Sweaterkits  Scarfette.   Carol completed the one with a pinch

of pink, Gail the blue one.   The one on the needles also belongs to Gail

Wilma finished her Fern Kerchief and it looks great on her.

 

She wears those kinds of pieces well.  I think it is her height.  She also spent her week knitting bracelets.  6 rows of stockinet in two colours.  They  of course roll to create a very cute piece of little girl jewellery.

It is her second.  Knit with stash yarn and Dollar store beads for a million dollar look.  Wonderful.

Carol knit herself a Whisper Cardi recently.  I guess it made a favourable impression on her 8 year old grand daughter as this one is for her.

With a beaded fringe, no less.  Lucky grand daughter.

Now isn't that a display that's hard to beat?    Amazing colours.  Amazing creativity.  Amazing fun.

Nothing to Show

Where my knitting time disappeared to today, I do not know.  My goal was to start the back of Vignette.  Instead, this morning, I hiked.  And this afternoon?  Who knows?

Laid out here are the four 'so-far' pieces of Vignette.

 The 2 fronts and the sleeves.  Yes, Sandra was right - the sleeves only seem to take forever!

 So far.  Still perfectly preserved in ball form.  No 12 day sweater this, for sure.  It is taking me forever.

What I have learned so far is - knitting a sweater in pieces is tedious, slow and  therefore boring.  Remind me not to do this again.  I should have converted Vignette  to a 'knit- in-the-round' sweater.  it would have been done by now. - That's my story!

And now, due to the long knitting time, I am distracted.  I want to knit  All The Shades Of Truth.  I want to knit it NOW!    And if Vignette was finished, Shades would be on the needles.  Tonight, I am attending a lecture, given by Linden MacIntrye -  wonder if he would mind if I knit?

Great Beginnings Has A Great Ending.

My little Great Beginnings is finished.  It is so!!! cute.

Pattern:  Great Beginnings by Anne Russell

Yarn:  Opal Sock yarn in Tiger Colourway - from stash

and Noro Sock yarn for button band

Needles:  3.5mm circ

Despite  knitting my Great Beginnings vest with   sock weight yarn instead of the Aran weight suggested by the pattern it was nonetheless still a quick knit.  A week or so of knitting while watching the 6 pm news and voila!  a great baby vest.

Using stash was the main intention for the project and the reason for choosing sock yarn.  I gambled with sizing.  Knitting the second  largest size with the finer yarn gave me exactly the 3 month size. Not that I would take that as gospel should you choose to do the same but that is what I managed.

Naturally, as often happens with stash, I ran out of yarn.  I would rather have run out of yarn far from the finish line than with only a few rows left  to do.  That way some nice co-ordinating stripes might have been  an attractive way to  finish off the vest.  But as luck would have it,  with just the button/hole bands left to knit, I came to the end of the Opal yarn.  Fortunately I had some co-ordinating Noro sock yarn in the stash and it looks fine  - previously planned even - in the button bands.
