A Decision Has Been Made

Given that I have been blog writing since 2008 ...
Given that  I still enjoy communicating with knitters via my blog postings, but...
Given that the blogging community is not what it once was  and ...
Given that I no longer enjoy the self-imposed pressure to post daily (or almost daily),   I have made a decision.

I am going to continue blogging but make the blog a 'Special Occasions' blog.  This will alleviate the feeling that I must/should be posting frquently but still give me the enjoyment of keeping in touch when something special has happened in my knitting world.

Like today for instance.  I have finished an Eternity Scarf for my Christmas basket.

The inspiration for this scarf came from Wool & Silk,   Shelburne's great LYS.  The shop had two of these scarves on display when I visited a couple of weeks ago.  One in sock yarn and one in Knitting Worsted weight. I chose Sock yarn

and other than yesterday's marathon to the finish line,  I knit  crocheted this up in a little over a week.   It is a crocheted adaption of the knitted Linen Stitch.  Having done both, I can sure vouch for the speediness of the crocheted version.

The pattern, a freebie from Estelle,  is a simple repeat of single crochet and chain stitches.    I modified mine, joining  it in the round after a few rows as I wanted an  Infinity  scarf.  If I were to do it again, I would probably use 300 stitches  to start.  The 400 stitches go around my head three times, so I feel certain the 300 would be long enough and give the scarf more width.

And in the spirit of two for the price of one, another Special Occasion  happened on Saturday. It was the annual Kitchener Waterloo Knitters Fair.  There, I ran into Patrick who now owns Signature Yarns.
Patrick is a one-of-a-kind guy and I came to know and love him when we worked together at London Yarns, many years ago.  Saturday, he insisted that I try on one of his display garments.  The one that was clearly out of my price range but  -  oh  - so gorgeous.

Talk to you at the next 'Special Occasion'.
PS - For those that maybe don't know, you can, for free, sign up for an RSS feed that notifies you when your favourite blog has a new post.  It  eliminaes the need to actually visit the blog  site to see if there is a new post.  I use The Old Reader.  theoldreader.com

I didn't realize that I was special occasion blogging. I just thought I was slow about updating. Love the coined phrase.

I felt the same pressure to post, and while there are times I miss the blog dearly, I'm finding Instagram so much easier to deal with! You can find me at @sjrichardson10 on instagram...

I understand completely. I had a garden forum which thrived for 2 years, but the daily posts, moderations, spam patrol was time consuming.

I will SOOOO miss Thursdays Are For Knit Group posts, but look forward to your special posts. By the way...look at you looking Glam in that photo, gal!

I understand why completely. It has to be something your heart is into fully or it does just become a job and not the paying kind.

Good for you, Brenda, for making a decision about what feels comfortable and doable. I will treasure those special occasion posts.

Ditto! What everyone else says...now I don't have to feel guilty discovering you've blogged eight times and I haven't been reading! It's ok! I love being able to look in on your life. (By the way, Pattie is in Scotland! Traveling to Shetland Islands today! Lucky her!)
